Abstract
Pesantren is the oldest Islamic educational institution and has become apart of national education. Pesantren has given a lotcontribution to the growth and development of Islam Nusantara andas well as the trigger for the growth of other Islamic institutions in Indonesia.Pesantren education has a distinctive character, including religious character. This research was conducted at the WaliSongo Islamic Boarding School located in Ngabar. This study aims to find out howIslamic boarding schools instill religious character in their students. Researchers used qualitative descriptive methods to identifycharacter education at the WaliSongo Islamic Boarding School. The results showed that the WaliSongo Islamic Boarding School instilled a religious character through learning activities in the classroom and outside the classroom. The research objective to be achieved is to describe the efforts ofMahfuzhat teacher in shaping the religious character of students through classroom learning and practice in daily life methodshabituation and explanation of what factorssupport and hinder in the implementation of the habituation method inform the religious character of students in grade 2 MTs Wali Songo Putri. The research method used is descriptive qualitative method. The subjects in this study were teacher Mahfuzhat and grade 2 MTs WaliSongoPutri. The data collection method uses the observation method,interviews, and documentation. Data analysis techniques using analysisinteractive with steps of data reduction, data presentation, and with drawalconclusion. The results showed that Mahfuzhat's teacher's efforts inform a religious character through habituation methods such as: habituation of smiles, greetings, and salim (3S), habituation of clean and healthy livinghealthy, habituation to read AsmaulHusna and daily prayers, habituationbe honest, habituation has an attitude
of responsibility, habituationdiscipline, habituation of worship, and habituation of Al-Qur'an literacy.The supporting factors in shaping the religious character of
